I was 8 years old and I couldn’t wait to get by first trophy for ballet class.

My best friend Tracy was a year older and had been going to dance class for a year longer than me.  She got to wear prettier and more grown up dance customs and she already had her first dance trophy.

The dance teacher ( I can remember her what she looked like, but not her name) was very strict about attendance.

If you missed more than one dance class within a time period, no matter your excuse, you could dance in the recital, but you would not receive a trophy.

My first recital was coming up and I had only missed one class.  I didn’t know about the rule, but my mom did.

Ballet trophy Five Minute Friday: What Mama Did

For one of the dance numbers we were all suppose to wear our hair in braids.  My mom was still cutting my hair into a “pixie” so she made me braids out of yellow yarn.  It was devastating to me not to have long hair and “real” braids.

My mom did her best with the hair.  Then she couldn’t get me to dance class for some “mom” reason.

She knew that meant I wouldn’t be receiving a trophy after the recital.

I suppose she didn’t want her little girl with the yellow yarn braids to suffer the disappointment of not receiving a trophy with all the other girls at the end of the recital.

Before we left the house she told me about the rule and that she was sorry I missed two classes. Then she handed me the most beautiful trophy I had ever seen.

I was so tall and it was gold with a pink ball and a gold ballerina in a pretty dance pose on top of the ball.

I loved that trophy, but more I loved my mama for what she did.

I am blessed.

Blessed beyond measure.

You are blessed beyond measure too.

I can hear Him singing. Singing over us.

God sings over us 300x234 Five Minute Fridays: Beloved

The most gorgeous voice, more than angelic.

The words, the notes, the melody- like  millions of angels singing at once.

I hear it and it soothes me.

It calls to me.  Deep calling to deep.  It hungers for me. Oh the beauty and mystery of it.

I’m humming along.  Swaying – sinking into the love.

He’s singing over you too.

Oh, I hear Him calling, hungering, reaching, and longing for you.

You are His beloved.  I am His Beloved.

Oh the sweet song of our God calling out to and singing over His Beloved.

Anxiety dreams.

Do you ever have them?

I’ve had many of the same dreams that play out in my mind from some place of anxiety within me.

It’s prom and I can’t keep my eyes open or  I can’t see to put my make up on and do my hair.

hand over mouth Five Minute Friday Writing Challenge: Afraid

It’s my turn to speak and I have something stuck on my back tooth.  It’s gum, but more like sticking, thick cement.  When I try to pull it off it takes my filling out- then the tooth comes out too.  But I keep trying to get it out, cuz it’s my turn to speak and my mouth is full of this stuff- I keep pulling at it and now all my teeth are coming out.

It’s so weird, because I’m not afraid to speak to audiences (I would be if I had to without my make up on and hair done through).  What’s with the anxiety over this I wonder????

What could I really be afraid of?

It’s my turn, my mouth is too full to speak.

Too full of what?

Me.

I never want to be too full of me.

I want to be full of my Lord.

January 25, 2013

Again.

I find myself in this place over and over.

I am sometimes humbled and other times ashamed that I am here…. Again.

I am here, down on my knees crying out to my Father, “Please forgive me Lord, I have messed up….again.”
